Thredbo River House, Jindabyne

Home sites on the banks of the Thredbo River are rare. There are probably fewer than 6 houses along the entire length of the river, so when we were approached to design a house in this magnificent location we couldn’t say yes fast enough. And not just because I got to go fishing after site meetings.

This 470 square metre house is partially buried in the hillside and features 4 bedrooms, large kitchen, dining and lounge areas, garages, workshop, wine cellar and office space.
Construction is in local granite, masonry, steel, concrete and timber.

Temperatures here vary from +30 degrees Celsius in the summer to -10 or below in winter. The house had to be energy efficient and bushfire resistant while making the most of the spectacular views of the Thredbo river and the Crackenback mountain range.
