Bespoke loft stairs
These stairs were designed to provide access to the loft space in Lake Crackenback house #2. Due to the narrow and steep space available, we needed something that was part way between a ladder and a staircase.
The solution was to use an offset, wedge-shaped tread. The stairs are twice as steep as a normal staircase, and providing you start on the right foot, it can be climbed and descended as easily as a normal staircase.
The stairs were fabricated from Tasmanian Oak timber in a workshop on the south coast of NSW, then transported and installed in one piece.
